Years ago in my twenties, I worked in Germany in construction and this was when I first tasted the German Curry GewÜrz ketchup.
This was such a difference from the regular ketchup I was used to that I brought some back home after the job in Germany was done.
Curry Ketchup Amazon
I know now that you can buy Curry ketchup on Amazon here in America, but I always like to make my own sauces and rubs for my recipes.
That is just part of the fun of grilling and smoking for me.
However, if you like to just order them I suggest going for the Hela brand that is the one I like most.
Home-Made Curry GewÜrz Ketchup Recipe
So, I have been searching online for copycat Curry Ketchup recipes and tried several.
They were all pretty good but I decided to take something of all of them and make my own recipe.
TIP: After mixing all the ingredients it is my experience that letting the Curry ketchup Sauce sit in the refrigerator overnight gives the best result.
I also added several optional ingredients to give the recipe a little more kick if you prefer.
Tools You Need To Make Curry Ketcup
There are not a lot of things you need to make my homemade Curry Ketcup.
- Bowl
- Cup size measuring cup
- Teaspoon size measuring cup
- Spatula or small whisk
Curry Ketchup Seasoning
- 1 Cup Ketchup
- 4 teaspoons Curry powder
- 3 Teaspoons Paprika powder
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire
- 2 teaspoons white sugar
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cold water.
Additional Seasoning.
I have played around with additions to this recipe and for a little more of a bite I added.
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon Balsamic vinegar
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
The original German Curry ketchup is available in mild and spice so I tried to make both versions.
No all you do is add the spices to the ketchup and use a spatula or whisk to mix it up very well

I hope you enjoyed my homemade quick and easy Curry ketchup recipe.
I know that about every region in Germany has its own version of this condiment and they also use slightly different names for them.
I like to add this Curry Ketchup sauce to my grilled bratwurst recipe to get a more original German flavor. However, I have used it on many other types of food such as French fries, sausage, and even on my smoked bologna recipe.
Let me know what you think in the comments.
