How To Make The Flying Dutchman Burger.
To make a Flying Dutchman Burger you need a skillet or flat-top grill, spatula, sauce com, sharp knife, and a whisk.
I also suggest lots of paper towels or napkins on the table!

Preheat the grill or skillet to medium heat and add your favorite cooking oil.
Grilling The Onions
Now add the sliced onion and let them cook for about 6-7 minutes before flipping them.
Start Grilling The Burgers
After flipping the onion it is time to put the hamburger balls in the pan and press them as flat as you can make them.
Tip: I use parchment paper in between the spatula and the burger to prevent the burger from sticking to the spatula.
Let the hamburger patties cook till the edge starts to brown and then you should flip them.
Add The Cheese To The Burgers
After the other side is ready put the slices of American chees on the hamburger patties and let them melt.
Combine Onion, Hamburger, and Sauc
Now it is time to combine the onion slices, hamburger patties, and the sauce.
Here is the order in which you should build the Flying Dutchman Burger.
- Slice onion
- Hamburger pattie with cheese
- Hamburger pattie with cheese
- Slice onion
- Sauce
I have tried some sauce in between the layers and I liked it! However, for some, it might be too much sauce.
How To Eat The Flying Dutchman Burger
You can wrap the burger halfway in a napkin and eat it that way. For me that did not work. I made a big mess on my shirt.
I just place it on a plate and cut it with a knife. And still made a mess!
The Grilling Dutchman Burger – My Eperience.
I have made this now a few times and love the combination of hamburger, onion, and sauce.
I am still trying to grill the onions perfectly without letting them fall apart when I flip them and will keep you updated on the process.
One tip I can give you is to flip them over just once. I also have seen someone flipping them and then spraying some water next to them and placing a lid over them.
Give my Flying Dutchman Burger recipe a try and let me know how you liked it.
