What Is The Flying Dutchman Burger
The Flying Dutchman burger is made of 2 hamburger patties topped with cheese, placed in between 2 grilled slices of onion, and then covered in a sauce.
Why Is It Called The Flying Dutchman Burger?
After digging around online, I found that the name probably comes from the owner of the In-N-Out restaurant, Guy Snyder, who is of Dutch heritage.
The name Flying Dutchman itself comes from a legend of a ghost sailship that is supposed to sail the seas for eternity without ever coming to a harbor.

How To Eat The Flying Dutchman Burger
You can wrap the burger halfway in a napkin and eat it that way. For me that did not work. I made a big mess on my shirt. I just place it on a plate and cut it with a knife. And still made a mess! The Grilling Dutchman Burger – My Eperience.
I have made this now a few times and love the combination of hamburger, onion, and sauce. I am still trying to grill the onions perfectly without letting them fall apart when I flip them and will keep you updated on the process. One tip I can give you is to flip them over just once. I also have seen someone flipping them and then spraying some water next to them and placing a lid over them. Give my Flying Dutchman Burger recipe a try and let me know how you liked it.
