good chop reviews

I have seen many Good Chop reviews online, and most of them sound like they were written before the meat ever hit a grill.

So I figured I should do this the right way. I ordered a box myself, cooked the cuts the way I actually cook at home, and paid attention to the stuff that matters. Taste, quality, portion size, and how the meat showed up at my door.

This isn’t a sales pitch. It’s my real taste test and honest take on whether Good Chop is worth your money.

“Spoiler alert: I was surprised by what they have to offer.”

Pros and Cons – My Quick Take on Good Chop

Every meat delivery service has its strong points and its weak spots, and Good Chop is no different. After cooking several cuts myself and paying attention to quality, portion size, shipping, and overall value, these are the biggest pros and cons that stood out to me

What I Liked

  • The meat quality was better than I expected. Good marbling and clean cuts.
  • Everything arrived solid frozen and well packed with dry ice.
  • No antibiotics or added hormones, which matters to me when I’m cooking for family.
  • Easy ordering and flexible subscription options.
  • The flavor held up on the grill and in the smoker without needing much help.

What Could Be Better

  • The price is higher than grocery store meat, no way around that.
  • Some cuts felt a little small if you’re feeding a big crowd.
  • Limited specialty cuts if you’re used to buying from a butcher.
  • Shipping timing can be hit or miss, depending on where you live.

What is Good Chop

The basics are the same as many other online butchers. Order, deliver, and enjoy.

In my opinion, that is what makes them stand out in a crowd.

What Farms Does Good Chop Use?

I had a good look at the sourcing page on their website and found that they only work with domestic farms and fisheries that raise their animals responsibly and without antibiotics or adding hormones to their feed.

What Does Good Chop Offer? Plans and Box Sizes Explained

Good Chop offers a few different subscription plans, and each plan comes as a frozen meat box delivered to your door.

The size of the box depends on the plan you choose, which makes a big difference in value if you are cooking for one person or a whole family.

Medium plan

Here you can pick 6 items from the Good Chop menu, and depending on what you choose, this can add up to 36 portions of meat or seafood per box.

Large Plan

In the large plan, you pick 12 items from the Good Chop menu, and again, depending on what you choose, this can add up to 72 portions of meat or seafood per box.

Good Chop Menu

It would take a whole website to show all the menu options, so I will keep it short here.

Beef

For the Good Chop beef on the menu, I found several options to choose from.

They, however, also have the option to order 100% grass-fed beef.

Most beef is started on a diet of grass and later in their lives are switched to a diet of grains and roughage.

Some of the items I found on the Good Chop beef menu are:

  • Ground beef (also 100% grain-fed)
  • Burger patties
  • Steaks
  • Bottom round

Pork

The good chop pork all comes from American farms that stay away from antibiotics and they are mostly fed a vegetarian diet. Except for the piglets, that are also fed milk protein.

You will have to scroll down the menu to find the pork, and here are some of the options of the Good Chop pork menu.

  • Ground sausage
  • Boneless pork chop
  • Pork tenderloin
  • Pork butt
  • Bacon

Chicken

The chicken that is sold on the Good Chop website comes from farms in Nebraska and Iowa. They are fed naturally with corn and soybean meal.

They never have antibiotics, growth stimulants, or any by-product in their feed.

The free-range chickens are never caged and run around in climate-controlled barns.

The two options to order from the Good Chop chicken menu are:

  • Chicken breast
  • Chicken thighs

Seafood

The Good Chop seafood is sourced from two sources. Wild Caught and Farm-raised. Both fish will never receive artificial coloring, hormones, or antibiotics.

The seafood menu contains the following:

  • Wild-caught Alaskan sockeye Salmon
  • Wild-caught Pacific Cod
  • Wild-Caugh Rockfish

Good Chop Shipping

After you have placed your order, you will receive tracking information so you can see when your package will arrive.

Depending on your area, your shipment will be delivered on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday.

Packaging is recyclable, and the dry ice will evaporate.

Your order will arrive frozen or still cold enough (below 40°F – 4.5 °C) to refreeze. If your box needs to be left outside, make sure it does not stay there too long for the best quality.

Good Chop Meat- Unboxing, Packaging, And Cooking Test

This is where I walk through how the Good Chop meat arrived, how it was packed, and how it actually cooked on my grill.

I took some pictures of unboxing and cooking the Flat Iron Steaks.

The box arrived a day later than planned, early in the morning, and the content was solid frozen. So, all we had to do was put it in the freezer and decide on what to cook first.

The packaging is of excellent quality, and the meat was frozen even after that extra day on the road.

Looking at the flat iron steak, I decided to go for that one first.

Grilling A Good Chop Flat Iron Steak

I did not season the steak so I could taste the meat better, and just added some homemade herb butter on top after cooking.

I grilled the flat iron steak for about 4 minutes on each side, and I could have done a little less to keep it medium-rare. After that, I let them rest for about 5 minutes.

The meat tasted great and was as tender as can be. Even my 92-year-old mother-in-law had no problem eating this flat iron steak.
